A Michigan school district canceled its plan for an elementary classroom mini-lesson on gender identity and pronouns after receiving backlash from community members, Dewitt Public Schools Superintendent Shanna Spickard said Friday.
The lesson was announced by the district as a voluntary activity for one first grade class outside of the school curriculum to “promote greater understanding, compassion, and kindness regarding gender identity and the use of pronouns.” The district said it informed parents and guardians in advance of offering the lesson to allow the opportunity for families to opt out of having their children participate
Facing a surge in Michigan COVID-19 cases in the spring of 2020 and a shortage of hospital beds, Whitmer issued an executive order on April 15 that required nursing homes with available capacity to create a dedicated unit to isolate residents with COVID-19 and accept COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals. It also designated some nursing homes to serve as "regional hubs" to accept infected residents from facilities that couldn’t safely isolate them.

I don't agree with what happened and with angry people sending threatening emails and messages to the school and teachers on social media or with the posting of the personal information of teachers online in an attempt to intimidate them.

At the same time I don't see the benefit in teaching kids, especially first graders, the concepts of gender identity and preferred pronouns. What exactly is there for kids to learn at this age? And I don't think this is a lesson using the strict definition but some political ideology pushed onto kids at a very young age.

Those idiot teachers were going to harm the children, and the parents did what all parents do ... anything to protect their children from idiots and predators.

I don't understand why they want to push sex... erm, gender education in elementary school. They aren't capable of understanding most of it and it will confuse them.
