So the trial of Donald Trump in New York broke down today after lunch, and the lawyers for both sides have been in and out of private meetings with the judge. This all happened after Donald Trump doxxed the court clerk, attacked her on social media, called her out by name and posted a link to her social media.

Ever since that happened, it seems Trump has been forced to take the post down, and a limited gag order has been placed on him.

Judge Arthur Engoron issued the order, which applies to all parties in the case and pertains only to verbal attacks on court staff. It came after Trump recirculated a disparaging social media post about Engoron’s principal law clerk, Allison Greenfield.

“Personal attacks on members of my court staff are unacceptable, not appropriate” and not tolerated, Engonon said.

A very limited gag order, basically says you can't attack people verbally. Just don't do it.

Why this is significant is that this is a first gag order placed on Trump so far, and definitely the first time a former president has been told not to attack people, under the penalty of the law.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of Trump's strategy. He'll point to the gag order as proof of the judge being biased when he files his appeal.

It won't work. But right now the enirety of Trump's strategy seems to be agitating the judge to the point that he makes a mistake.

I think it proves election interference.

By gagging him, 1st amendment aside even, barring him from campaigning while also attempting to drain his resources is a pretty easy connection to make.

I mean, we don't know, the judge could make a mistake, and Trump could use it to his favor.

What's more important for me is that that is his only strategy, hoping someone makes a mistake. He has no other defense, the evidence against him is overwhelming.

How does a gag order preventing him from talking about the judge's staff affect his ability to campaign?

Attacking a Court Clerk on social media whilst in Court?

What did he expect?

Exactly what he got.

So he can whine about bias.

And the MAGA crowd whining begins.

Highlighting corruption, clearly.

I'm sure one could make all sorts of arguments though.

Regardless, the judge is showing his true colors, and at least that's a positive.

Oh yeah, cause that court secretary, she's really behind all of the corruption, so it's cool to claim she's a girlfriend of someone in the oppositions party and blast out her personal social media.

Hope you stretched before that reach.

I suppose you missed the criminal charges and lawsuit from the last time Trump claimed a woman was corrupt? He just has to post it and let his lackeys start the harassment.

They should really start making Trump pay for all the increased security that ends up being required due to his flippant remarks that lead to his psychotic followers sending death threats.

What you are attempting to do here is derail this thread into a strawman argument.

Let's bring it back to focus. This is not about censorship, it is about not threatening or intimidating public servants or law officers. Something all of us know not to do.

The former president had to be ordered not to do it.

He's a very petty and weak man to use all his power and influence to intimidate public servants, regular Americans.

Hell Ruby Bridges had to move out, had people impersonating law enforcement and threatening her. A retired old lady. Now some poor court secretary? I mean seriously?

Try doing that in a UK Court and a gagging Order would be the least of your worries.

A night in the cells for contempt of Court.

If in Court, facing serious charges, who in their right mind sits there going on social media?

A total narcissist, that's who.

Then there was the woman that was arrested recently for threatening to kill Judge Chutkan if Trump doesn't win next year.

This is not about censorship,

Sure it is, that's what gagging is.

It's not my problem you don't understand semantics.

I do enjoy you attempting to argue that it isn't though.

Is that OK?

The courts have ruled many times that gag orders are constitutional.

Harassment?

That's funny. Were this standard be harassment, Trump would have claims on half the country and 99% of media.

Keep going though, this is great!
